Where to Set
Walk the edges of steep-banked streams, ponds, or drainage ditches feeling for underwater holes with your boots. Dens are typically located slightly below the water line. Look for freshly chewed vegetation or muddy trails leading directly into the hole.
How to Build It
1Locate the underwater den entrance by probing the bank.
2Position a 110 or 120 body-grip trap directly squarely over the hole opening.
3Secure the trap using a stake or support stick driven into the mud so it won't tip over.
4Ensure the trap springs are clear of debris and the trigger is positioned to fire when the animal passes through.
5Secure the trap chain firmly to a deep water stake or heavy drag.
