How To Tie / Assemble

1Slide a 2-4 oz pyramid or bank sinker onto your main line using a fish finder (slider) clip.
2Tie a high-quality barrel swivel to the end of your main line using a Trilene knot.
3Attach 24 to 36 inches of 20-30 lb fluorocarbon leader material to the other end of the swivel.
4Slide a small plastic bead onto the leader to act as a buffer between the slider and the swivel.
5Tie your chosen hook (circle or bait holder) to the end of the leader using a Palomar knot.
6Attach your chosen live or cut bait to the hook.

Recommended Baits

Fresh Shrimp

The universal choice for this rig; its natural scent and soft texture are highly effective for Pompano, Croaker, and Black Drum in the surf.

Live Finger Mullet

Best for targeting larger Redfish and Striped Bass, as the Carolina rig allows the bait to swim freely and realistically in the current.

Live Mud Minnows

An exceptionally durable bait for Flounder; the Carolina rig keeps the bait near the bottom where these ambush predators lie in wait.

Fishbites Synthetic Strips

Excellent for high-energy surf conditions because they stay on the hook better than natural bait, providing a constant scent trail for Redfish.

Sand Fleas

The gold standard for Pompano when fishing the first or second trough; the sliding sinker allows the bait to tumble naturally with the wave action.

How To Use It

Cast the rig into the surf, specifically targeting rip currents or troughs where fish congregate. Once it hits bottom, tighten the line just enough to feel the weight without moving it. Keep a sensitive rod tip to detect the subtle bites of fish picking up the bait, and allow them to run slightly before setting the hook.
