About This Lure

A soft swimbait with a kicking paddle tail, rigged on a jighead or weighted hook to imitate baitfish.

How To Fish It

Cast beyond your target structure or current seam and maintain a consistent speed to ensure the tail oscillates with a tight vibration. Keep your rod tip slightly lowered to maintain depth, and use your reel handle to control the bait's pace through the strike zone. The goal is to mimic a fleeing baitfish, triggering a reaction strike from predators holding near cover or ambush points.

Retrieve Cadence

A steady, slow crank where you feel the rod tip thrumming constantly, occasionally interrupted by a half-second pause to let the bait flutter downward.

Best Colors

Pearl White— Clear water and sunny conditions
Gizzard Shad— Matching hatch in stained or murky water
Blueback Herring— Fished in deep, open water for suspended fish

Recommended Gear

7' medium-heavy fast action casting rod, 6.4:1 gear ratio baitcaster, 12-15lb fluorocarbon line.

Pro Tips

  • Apply a drop of super glue to the bait keeper to prevent the plastic from sliding down during a fight.
  • Trim the nose of the bait flush if it refuses to sit perfectly straight on your jig head.
  • If you are getting short strikes, add a small treble hook stinger to the belly of the bait.
  • Change your retrieve angle so the bait passes parallel to the cover rather than pulling it directly away from the fish.
