Where to Set
Build against a log, rock, or brush pile along travel edges and near water. Cubbies work well where you want to focus an animal's approach through a single opening.
How to Build It
1Build a small box or 'cubby' from sticks, bark, rocks, or a natural cavity with one open end.
2Place bait and lure at the closed back of the cubby.
3Set a 110/160 bodygrip in the entrance, or bed a foothold just inside the opening.
4Stabilize the trap and cubby so nothing shifts.
5Narrow the entrance with guide sticks so the animal must pass the trap.
Bait & Lure
Meat or fish bait at the back of the cubby with a matching gland or food lure. Visual attractors (feathers) help for cats.
Fall through late winter. A roofed cubby also keeps snow and rain off the bait and trap, extending set life.
Safety & Legal
Check bodygrip-on-land restrictions — some states limit size or require the set be in a covered cubby with a restricted opening. Maintain trap tags and legal check intervals.
