Meet the Maker: Jeff Cote of SE Ohio Outdoors

A Bench Built on Partnership

Walk into Jeff Cote’s workspace, and you won’t find a sprawling factory or high-speed assembly lines. You’ll find a dedicated space where the focus is on solving real-world problems faced by hunters in the field. Jeff, the founder of SE Ohio Outdoors, runs his small shop with a simple, grounded philosophy: create quality, functional accessories that don’t break the bank.

Jeff’s journey into the maker space wasn't born out of a desire to dominate an industry, but rather out of a partnership. "This project got started by my wife and I to help bring quality functional accessories to the outdoor community at reasonable prices," Jeff explains. It’s that collaborative, family-oriented spirit that defines every piece that leaves his shop. When you support SE Ohio Outdoors, you aren't fueling a conglomerate; you are supporting a husband-and-wife team committed to serving the outdoor community they love.

The Craft: Simplicity with Purpose

There is a distinct difference between gear that is churned out by the thousands and gear that is built by hand. Jeff approaches his craft with a deliberate mindset. By focusing on archery and saddle hunting accessories, he addresses the specific, often overlooked nuances of the hunt.

He works primarily with high-quality ABS plastic, a material chosen for its durability and strength. When you hold a piece built by Jeff, you can feel the intention behind it. It isn’t about flashy aesthetics or complex gimmicks—it’s about equipment that does exactly what it’s supposed to do, every single time you’re in the woods. Because Jeff builds these items himself, he maintains a level of oversight that mass-produced gear simply cannot replicate.

The Raptor Hook: Your Tree Stand Savior

Every hunter knows the sinking feeling of watching a piece of gear tumble toward the forest floor while sitting in a tree stand. Whether it’s a rangefinder or a call, the climb back down is a major headache. Enter the Raptor Hook.

Designed specifically for archery and saddle hunters, the Raptor Hook is a game-changer for gear management. It’s designed to retrieve items quickly and quietly, so you don’t have to waste time or spook game. You simply tie or clip it onto your hoist rope, and you’ve got an instant, reliable retrieval tool. At just $4.00, it’s one of those small, inexpensive additions to your kit that pays for itself the first time you drop your bow or pack. Because Jeff builds these by hand, lead times are remarkably fast, usually shipping within 1-2 business days.

That’s exactly why we launched the Maker Program. We know that the best innovations often come from individual hunters sitting at their own workbenches. By providing a home for independent makers, we’re bridging the gap between those who build the best gear and those who need it most.

Get Involved

If you’re ready to upgrade your saddle setup, head over to the SE Ohio Outdoors shop and grab a Raptor Hook today. And for those of you who spend your evenings crafting your own gear? We want to see it. If you build functional, reliable outdoor equipment, list it for free through our Maker Program and join a growing community of craftsmen.
