Where To Use It
How To Tie / Assemble
- 1Tie a 3-foot section of 15-20lb fluorocarbon leader to your main braided line using a double uni-knot.
- 2Slide a small glass or plastic rattle onto the line if desired for extra sound attraction.
- 3Thread the eye of a 1/2oz to 2oz bucktail or lead jig head onto the fluorocarbon leader.
- 4Secure the jig head to the leader using a Palomar knot.
- 5Slide a 4-to-6 inch Gulp! Swimming Mullet or similar scented soft plastic onto the hook, ensuring it sits perfectly straight for a consistent sink rate.
Recommended Baits
Gulp! Swimming Mullet
A staple artificial soft plastic that releases powerful scent trails, making it ideal for targeting lethargic bottom-dwellers in murky water.
Live Finger Mullet
Best used when targeting trophy-sized fluke; the natural swimming vibration and erratic movement trigger predatory strikes from larger flatfish.
Bucktail Jig with Squid Strip
Combining a high-visibility bucktail with a long, trailing squid strip adds both color and natural flavor, perfect for enticing interest in deeper channels.
Sand Eel Imitations
Highly effective during the early season or in sandy current rips where flounder are actively hunting forage fish hiding in the substrate.
Live Green Crab
Specifically recommended for Winter Flounder as these fish are highly adapted to feeding on small crustaceans in shallower, cooler estuary waters.
How To Use It
Cast the jig past the strike zone, allow it to hit the bottom, and use short, sharp rhythmic rod twitches to stir up bottom sediment. Pause frequently to let the jig settle, as most strikes occur the moment the lure touches down or during the initial lift.
