Chapter 6
The Story
Oct 9, 2026
This was a buck I never had a trail cam pic of or any history with. Early November I had missed a target buck at 35 yards with my Hoyt due to not seeing a branch and deflecting and the arrow sailed over his back. Shortly after I saw this buck come out of a ditch line and walk stiff legged towards some younger deer all bristled up. This deer was looking for a fight and with the broken tine I nicknamed him scrappy. Scrappy stayed out in the field and never was within 100 yards of my stand. That was my only encounter with the Deer during bow season. Opening day of rifle season in NY came and as always I plan an all day sit. The wind out of the north set up perfect for my buck hut raised blind. The day was super slow. At 3 pm I could hear movement in the thick area to the west. I finally was able to see it was scrappy working his was east across the ridge! Scrappy managed to make it to a shooting lane at 60 and I was able to drop him in his tracks with my Sig Sauer 716i 308 AR10. I posted the picture of the mount because my best friend took up taxidermy and this was one of his first mounts!
