Prop Bait

A topwater with spinning props that churn the surface on a stop-and-go retrieve.

Cast the bait past target cover or along weed lines and allow the ripples to fade completely before the first twitch. Use sharp, downward rod snaps to spin the prop, creating a spitting noise and water displacement that mimics a struggling baitfish. Follow up with long pauses to trigger explosive strikes from bass tracking the disturbance.

• Always sharpen your hooks; the prop can sometimes interfere with initial hook penetration on short strikes.
• If a fish blows up and misses, keep the bait dead-still for 10 seconds before giving it a tiny, subtle twitch.
• Check the prop alignment after every few casts to ensure it spins freely without grinding against the lure body.
• Use monofilament instead of braid to keep the nose of the bait up and prevent the line from fouling in the prop.
