About This Lure

A live leech fished on a jig or slip-sinker rig, a top walleye producer in warmer months.

How To Fish It

Hook the leech through the sucker to allow for maximum movement and a natural swimming action. Slowly drag or drift the bait along bottom structure like rock reefs or weed lines where walleye ambush prey. Maintain a tight line to feel for the subtle pick-up typical of a walleye inhaling the bait.

Retrieve Cadence

A slow, steady crawl across the bottom with a five-second pause every three feet to trigger interest.

Best Colors

Black— Standard all-around color for stained water or bright conditions
Brown— Ideal for clear water and matching natural forage
Blue-fleck— Effective in low-light conditions or heavy cloud cover

Pro Tips

  • Keep leeches in a cool, insulated bait cooler to prevent them from balling up.
  • Change your leech frequently if it stops wiggling to maintain peak visual attraction.
  • If you miss a hit, immediately drop the bail and let the fish run with the bait for five seconds before setting the hook.
  • Use a lighter wire hook to allow the leech to swim more freely without being weighed down.
